LOGLINE
#TherapyToo: Exposing the Dark Side of Therapy is a gripping documentary that uncovers the hidden abuses and ethical breaches within the mental health industry, giving voice to survivors and demanding accountability in a system built on trust.
SYNOPSIS
#TherapyToo is a seven-episode documentary series that follows therapy harm advocate and survivor Amy Nordhues through her journey of activism. Along the way, the film meets other survivors and their families through Amy’s advocacy as well as experts and whistleblowers who blow the top off the therapy harm narrative, exposing the devastating consequences of this misunderstood abuse. The film is a journey through all forms of therapy exploitation, sexual and nonsexual, as well as male victims, retaliation after reporting, legal challenges, collusion in the field itself, and ending in a reunion of survivors.
ABOUT THE FILM
Amy Nordhues and Jennifer Kramer are two therapy harm survivors who met online. Through shared understanding and unique individual talents, they came together as a team to create #TherapyToo to educate the world on this secret and misunderstood form of abuse. It is more than a passion for Amy and Jennifer…it is a calling that they both feel a tremendous responsibility to accomplish, especially after meeting so many fellow survivors along the way. They hope the film fosters greater understanding of the risks inherent in therapy and serves as a wake-up call to therapists about the profound responsibility and privilege they hold in the lives of their patients.

She hopes that #TherapyToo will be a project that illustrates the many issues surrounding therapy harm and the enormous damage it causes to its victims. Jennifer is driven, not only by her own trauma and pain at the hands of unethical therapists, but by the many other survivors whose stories Jennifer has heard while developing the series. As a result, Jennifer feels a tremendous responsibility to bring the project to fruition to honor the survivors and “shine a light” on this often misunderstood and complex topic. Jennifer also hopes it will remind practicing therapists of the tremendous humanity, honor and responsibility they need to have when given a license. Otherwise, they shouldn’t have one. https://www.jennifer-kramer.com
