MISSION STATEMENT:

#TherapyToo is a docuseries dedicated to exposing the hidden dangers and abuses of power within the world of psychotherapy. By uncovering the contradictions, secrecy, and systemic flaws within the mental health industry, we aim to educate the public about a form of harm that is rarely seen but deeply devastating.

Through survivor testimony, investigative insight, and public education, we seek to break the silence surrounding this misunderstood form of abuse. Our mission is to give a voice to the countless individuals who have been harmed behind closed doors and to inspire change through awareness, advocacy, and empowerment.

The is about TRUTH, this is about JUSTICE. This is about PROTECTING the vulnerable and RECLAIMING the narrative.

THE PRODUCERS

Amy Nordhues is a survivor of both childhood sexual abuse and sexual abuse as an adult at the hands of a mental health professional. She has a BA in psychology with minors in sociology and criminology. Her memoir, Prayed Upon: Breaking Free from Therapist Abuse, was released in October 2021. She has completed numerous radio and podcast interviews on the subject of adult therapist/clergy abuse. Additionally, she has presented at the 2022 Beautifully Broken Conference, the 2022 Restoring Hope: Celebrating Resilience Conference, the 2022 Oklahoma Counseling Association Conference, the 2022 Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Rally, and the 2023 Crimes Committed Against Women Conference. Find her devotions in The Secret Place (Judson Press) devotional series and her blog at www.amynordhues.com.

She hopes that through her ministry, she can shed light on the very under-reported issue of therapist/clergy abuse, both to offer support to the victim and to aid loved ones so they can better assist the survivors in their lives. She also hopes to work towards improving the laws in her state, which currently has no legislation regarding therapist abuse. In over half of the states in the U.S., it is illegal for a therapist to engage in sex with a client. The power differential that exists in any therapeutic relationship makes it impossible for a client to give consent. For this reason, the patient entering therapy must be protected. Jennifer Kramer is a multi-faceted artist and therapy harm survivor. She hopes that #TherapyToo will be a project that illustrates the many issues surrounding therapy harm and the enormous damage it causes to its victims. Jennifer is driven not only by her own trauma and pain at the hands of unethical therapists but also by the many other survivors whose stories Jennifer has heard while developing the series. As a result, Jennifer feels a tremendous responsibility to bring the project to fruition to honor the survivors and “shine a light” on this often misunderstood and complex topic.  Jennifer also hopes it will remind practicing therapists of the tremendous humanity, honor, and responsibility they need to have when given a license. Otherwise, they shouldn’t have one.

Jennifer majored in acting at Carnegie Mellon University and The New Actor's Workshop in New York, which was founded by director Mike Nichols. She was cast in roles in films and television as a child, but later found her real identity acting challenging roles on the stage. Jennifer is also a classically trained pianist and has performed in concert halls in Los Angeles. Her debut short NAKUSA (inspired by her therapy harm) travelled the United States, Canada, and Europe, winning numerous awards and critical acclaim. Jennifer is in pre-production on her feature film LIVING PIECES - a full-scale musical inspired by legendary classical composers. Jennifer is the daughter of the iconic filmmaker Stanley Kramer and actress/producer Karen Sharpe. For more about Jennifer, go to her website, jennifer-kramer.com

"Is it a coincidence that the label, therapist, also describes THE RAPIST? I have seen too many times in my 50-year career that they are one and the same."  ~Stan Spero, The Law Offices of SJ Spero & Associates

"Sometimes these very pathological dynamics in therapy, the pathological dynamics that are created fundamentally by the immaturities and the lack of skills by the therapist can go on for years...and can really end up screwing up the client in terrible ways." ~Daniel Mackler, Ex-Psychotherapist and Advocate
